Your Throat Chakra: 5 Quick + Easy Tips to Heal Your Source of Communication

Your Throat Chakra: 5 Quick + Easy Tips to Heal Your Source of Communication

Could your throat chakra use some care and attention? If you’re like most people, chances are high that it does. This is especially true if you often have trouble expressing yourself, have a hard time listening to others or struggle with perfectionism.

Since the throat chakra allows you to communicate, helps you to express yourself, as well as feel strong in your sense of self, when this chakra gets out of balance, life can get a bit dicey. Because when you don’t feel secure in yourself, all of your chakras can start to wobble, a bit like a house of cards.

But here’s the good news. You can begin to take a few quick steps today to start giving some loving support to your throat chakra. This in turn will support the health of all your other chakras.

And I bet it’s easier than you think! Let’s find out.

What are the Chakras?

The chakras are a part of the energy body, or system.

More specifically, the chakras are the seven main energy centers in the body that regulate and process the flow of life force energy in and around each of us. Each chakra is responsible for supplying energy to specific parts of the body, mind and emotions.

Where is the Throat Chakra Located?

The throat chakra is the fifth chakra. It is located over your throat, in the center of your neck.

It’s associated the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Here’s a diagram that shows where the throat chakra is on the human body:

This chakra is also known as Vishuddha in Sanskrit. The meaning of Vishuddha is “purification.”

What Does the Throat Chakra Do?

Your throat chakra is connected with your ability to healthfully communicate your wants and needs with others, whether or not you find it easy to be truthful and even your level of resistance to public speaking! The health of this chakra greatly impacts how easily you can access your creativity, as well as the strength of your speaking voice.

It also supplies energy to your throat, mouth, and ears.

How Do I Know If My Throat Chakra Needs Support?

Signs of a balanced throat chakra include being able to be artistic, being good at communication, meditating easily and feeling contented. If you don’t feel that this describes your life experience, your throat chakra could probably use some support.

If you’re still unsure, consider the following questions:

  • Would most people describe you as shy and quiet, or a “wallflower?”
  • Do people often misunderstand what you were trying to say, or do you often feel misunderstood?
  • Is it hard for you to listen to others, especially when they have a viewpoint that differs from your own?
  • Do you have chronic neck pain or issues?

If you answered yes to one or more of the questions above, then consider trying out one of the following throat chakra health tips.

What Can I Do to Support My Throat Chakra?

While chakra healing is a comprehensive field, you can begin by taking some quick and easy steps TODAY to start to bring healing and balance into your throat chakra.

I think you’ll be excited by how easy it can be!

Tip # 1: Work with the Magic of a Healing Affirmation

You can also use an affirmation to support the health of your throat chakra.

Here’s a healing affirmation for your throat chakra:

“I communicate my inner thoughts and feelings with ease. I am creative and open.”

You can repeat this affirmation, either out loud or silently to yourself, while meditating. Or, you can just say it whenever you feel like it, supporting your throat chakra, and all its many functions, throughout your day.

While you speak or think the affirmation, envision your throat chakra as clear of blockages, spinning freely, and as a beautiful and bright, turquoise-y blue color.

Stopping to visualize your throat chakra as healthy, while supporting it with loving, encouraging words throughout the day, is one of the fastest and most effective ways to make a difference in its functioning.

Tip # 2: Put it in a Letter

A great way to increase the health of your throat chakra is through strengthening your communication abilities and releasing repressed feelings.

When we hold back the things that we want to say to another person, but just don’t feel safe saying, a blockage in the throat chakra can occur. Just think of the tension that you feel in your throat when you choke back feelings of love, sadness or hurt.

It may sound cliché, but sit down and write a letter to the person from whom you are holding back. So whether you want to confess your undying love or tell them that they really hurt you and you’re angry, just get it out of your body! Your body is not the place to store repressed emotions – that just leads to dis-ease.

Now of course, you do not have to give this letter to the person unless you really want to. And you really shouldn’t give it to them if it’s filled with vented anger and frustration. No one deserves to receive that!

But as you start to let out all of the feelings and words you’ve been suppressing, you will find that the throat chakra begins to function much better and you will develop the ability to communicate more easily and eloquently in the actual moment.

Then you won’t even have a need to be suppressing all sorts of thoughts and feelings. This will lead to a much healthier energy body, and therefore, a much healthier you!

Tip # 3: Harness the Power of Crystal Healing

You can work with a crystal that supports the health of the throat chakra. Some top choices include:

  • Turquoise
  • Sodalite
  • Kyanite

But don’t feel limited to these. There are many other crystals that would work perfectly! Simply follow your intuition to find the crystal that is right for you.

Once, you’ve got your crystal all picked out, you can hold the crystal in your hand and “breathe” in the energy of the stone.

Or, you can lie on your back and place the crystal directly on your throat chakra, over your throat, in the center of your neck. It may help if you place the crystal on a folded up tissue to keep it from rolling. As you lie with the stone, do so with the intention of supporting that chakra.

If you’re new to crystal healing start with five to ten minutes, and then gradually build up to 20 minutes of this practice.

Tip # 4: Make Friends with a Yantra

Each chakra has a sacred symbol that represents it, called a yantra.

Here is the yantra for the throat chakra:

The Reiki Guide Throat Chakra Yantra

Gazing upon this yantra in meditation will help to clear, strengthen and fortify your throat chakra.

You can start by looking at this image with a very soft focus to your eyes. Don’t stare intently, just relax. You can start with as little as one to two minutes, and work you way up to ten or more.

Tip # 5: Tap into the Energy of BLUE

The throat chakra is associated with the color light, even turquoise-y, blue.

This means that wearing the color blue can actually support your throat chakra. So throw on a lovely blue shirt or pants, or even a scarf or hat, and start feeling a stronger voice and sense of self emerge!

If you don’t want to wear blue, you can simply gaze at the color. So you could look at a pretty blue flower, a blue wall, a yummy bowl of blueberries, or even a piece of blue construction paper. Anywhere that you can find some blue to look at will do just fine.

If you tend to be chronically cold or depressed, though, don’t over do it with blue. Stick to looking intently at it for just five minutes or less.

That’s it!

If you do as many of these tips as often as you can, you can expect to see a difference in the weeks to come. Of course, just like with any practice or goal, consistency is very much key. And doesn’t your throat chakra deserve some love and support?

Don’t forget, your throat chakra is an integral component of your energy system, and supports your:

  • Communication
  • Voice
  • Thyroid
  • Sense of self
  • And more!
